Quick Breakfast Poll: Mastoris or Americana

Which would you go to for a diner breakfast:
1. Mastoris
2. Americana

3. "Other" - Hightstown Diner, in town on Rt. 33. More of a "real" diner feel than the over the top "retro" Americana (beautiful place, but the de-emphasized, tiny counter kills the "authenticity"). Also, the food has become "average" (or worse) but the prices have remained higher than typical "diner".

Mastoris is just too BIG and, when I've been there at least, too crowded. I don't think I've even been in all the "rooms"- I can't recall ever seeing the counter at all? No counter, no "diner". I've never been there for breakfast (which, I agree, is *the* diner meal) but I don't have much hope for it based on other meals I've had- i.e., "Well, the cheese bread was good.". Plus it's so much further a drive for me. <g>

I'm a bit confused.... there seems to be two Americana Diners. One is in East Windsor, the other is in Shrewsbury. I didn't realize there were two with the same name. Which one of the two is everyone referring to?

I was referring to the Americana in East Windsor. Never tried the other.

Mastoris for cheese bread and a cup of tea, on a cold day before a flea market a Mastoris Spud is good!
Americana for French toast, on a crazy day try the french toast rolled in Rice Krispies!!

I would have to agree Iron Skillet #1...but to get back to the original poll....
Def the Americana over Mastoris any day!!!! for all meals and some really good Matzo Ball soup too!

well, there was that option for "other" and I couldnt think of a better "other" than the Iron Skillet. Im so glad you brought that into the poll, because I probably wouldnt have thought of it.

OK, I have driven by the Iron Skillet a hundred times and have never been there, other than to go in and get a cup of coffee to go. Guess I have to give it a try one of these days.

Based on my recent experience, I would say Americana, hands down. An interesting, innovative breakfast menu that goes well beyond the usual bacon and eggs. My father believes they have some of the best omelets he's ever had. And my crepes with tomatoes, spinach and feta were excellent. It was far healthier than anything I would have gotten at Mastori's. Oddly, I have reversed my views on Mastori's. I used to like them for breakfast and avoid them for dinner. Now it's the other way around...

Americana, for sure. Mastoris is terribly mediocre, in my opinion. No idea why so many go here, other than location and maybe it's a tradition. Some poeple like some dishes, but in general people sure do not flock here for the food quality.
