I need some info re fresh pineapple

I had a Gold pineapple sitting on the counter, and I cut into it a few days after I had originally planned to. It was mostly yellow, tho with some darker, brown areas.

Can someone tell me what these areas are, and whether they're OK to eat?

These areas smelled OK and tasted OK, and I ate them with no ill-effects. Tnx in advance to all who reply.

Depending on where you live, you can take the top off a pineapple, root it, and after a long wait, have your own fresh, home grown pineapple. My wife grows a few every year.

Nothing like plucking a fresh pineapple off the plant to eat at Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanksgiving coincides nicely with the Canadian pineapple harvest.

I didn't think it was the right climate, but per the following sites, they can even grow in Brooklyn!
(the first link has how to buy and the best step-by-step procedure for growing I've found)

This I must try, even if it does take 2+ years to start bearing fruit.

caralien, i did this in florida and here in northern virginia. never saw a little piña, unfortunately. but it looks neat to have a "pineapple" growing. the green part stays green.

How sturdy are the leaves? I have a brown thumb...

oh, they're pretty sturdy, alright. not like you have when you buy the pineapple, but it's fun! try it. i have one now that i need to put in the soil. i just stuck it on some rich soil in a pot in the past. it catches on.

If the brown areas are on the outer part of the flesh, they are normally just bruising or over ripeness. I would just cut off the brown areas and the rest of the pineapple should be fine, especially if it smelled OK.
