Devlins on Washington near market in brighton - foods ok (better than average bar food but don't expect L'Espalier) and the back patio is large and friendly.

Devlin's patio is quite lovely - i was there a couple nights ago. I agree that the food is pretty "Meh", but it's more for drinks and atmosphere.

As much as people hate on the food at Alchemist in JP, I actually quite like the place, and they've got outdoor seating as well.

Dante in Cambridge has a beautiful patio looking over the Charles toward Boston. It's just across the river and parking at the Cambridgeside Galleria lot is cheap- $3.99. The service was very accomodating when we were there and for well-behaved kids I think the patio would be a good option, although it's a bit more upscale than what I would normally think of as "kid friendly."
