Little D: in memoriam

cjd260 Jun 1, 2009 07:57 AM

It wasn't widely publicized - in fact the wait staff told us just a week before it happened and asked us not to spread it around - but Little D, on Seventh Ave in Park Slope, closed for good yesterday. It had been our favorite neighborhood place for years, emblematic of the neighborliness we love about South Slope, and though the food was consistently good and always wonderfully fresh, we'll miss it more for the friendly staff and the feeling of home than anything else. Frank Bruni was never going to write it up, but that really wasn't the point.

Unfortunately it's too late to do anything about it now, but Little D, know that you will be missed.

Seriously? I was in there for the first time for brunch on Saturday and it was packed. I find it surprising that no one on staff would have said anything.

It wasn't part of my regular loop, but I found it pretty excellent when I was there a while ago. It's a shame they couldn't weather the tanked economy.

Maybe Little Dishes is to Applewood what Tempo is to al di la -- a worthy restaurant shadowed out by a delicious better-known heavy hitting neighbor, when there's less $$ for $$ restaurants.

It says in the window that it is on Vacation from June 1- June 9. Are you sure that your facts are correct?

I'd love to be wrong; I'm just going on what I was told by the waitstaff , but it would be odd for all of them to lie about something like that, esp. as I live nearby.

Website says closed for vacation June 1-9, don't know why they would put that on the site if they were closing for good, but stranger things have happened.

Even the website says "CLOSED FOR VACATION June 2 - 9, 2009"

Always meant to try this place, so I hope its not gone.

It's closed, for real. And according to a waitress there it has already been bought by someone who is going to open a Mexican restaurant in it's place. Bummer.

I've been hearing rumors about the owners wanting to sell for a while. This was a high quality neighborhood place that paid attention to local, fresh ingredients and did its best to change at least part of the menu often. The brunch was my favorite in Park Slope, easily better than Applewood and Stone Park. A real pity. All the best to the owners and thanks for all of the tasty meals!

This makes me so sad. The wait staff had been telling us that the owner was looking to sell, but that it would still be the same, but i guess that didn't work out. This was absolutely my favorite place in PS, the first restaurant we went to after we moved in, and my favorite place to go on "date night" with my husband. What a shame. Who needs another crap mexican restaurant anyway?

Perhaps it's going to be a very fine restaurant, with Mexican staff. I'd venture to say that a number of restaurants in the 'hood are Mexican when it comes to the actual cooking.
