My sweetie wants to go to a French restaurant here in Albuquerque for her birthday. I know that Albuquerque has some French restaurants, but I don't know anything about any of them. Do you have opinions, recommendations, etc?

Cafe Jean Pierre recently opened and is the best choice for French in Albuquerque, IMO.

I LOVE LA Provence! Their truffle fries are truly to die for and their food is excellent. The service is very good, too. You can sit outside or in. They have traditional French cuisine, with some nice touches beyond. The bread is decent, the butter too cold, but hey, those fries make everything else ok. They have 1/2 priced bottles of wine [glasses too??] on either Sunday or Monday [sorry, drawing a blank on the day].

I haven't been to La Crepe Michel in Old Town (400 San Felipe St NW, 242-1251) for years, but she always did well by us.

Le Cafe Miche on Wyoming closed last year and became the new location of El Norteño.

La Provence right next to UNM (3001 Central NE, 254-7644) has always impressed me with nice food (sometimes better than others) and wonderful service. The owner has impressed me with his commitment to service. I'm not all that thrilled with their bread, though (doesn't compare to Clafoutis in SF).

Chez Axel on Montgomery at San Pedro (6209 Montgomery NE, 881-8104), well, I never really liked the room - for reasons I can't really explain. I haven't been there in a while and don't even know if they're still open. The service was always very nice and the food just fine. They were always running "buy one/get one" specials.
