I'm trying to find the name of a specific bulk food store in London. I flew on United a few weeks ago and there was an article in the UAL magazine about a woman who opened a bulk food store. She highly encourages people to bring their own containers, is sourcing food as locally as possible (getting the nearby Indian restaurant to supply her w/ chutney in bulk, etc.), the place looks hip/cute... I've searched the web and haven't come up w/ anything.

Anyone know the name of this place? Do they have a website?

Thanks

Hiya, I Googled 'United Airlines magazine' and found this cover article. The place is called Unpackaged.

Haven't checked back in a bit - thanks so much for the link. Guess I should have thought of Googling the UAL magazine - duh!

Anyone been to Unpackaged? Is everything scooped out by the staff or do the customers do some of it themselves? I'm intrigued by this concept, but can't visit as I am in San Francisco.

I supply some non-food products to Unpackaged so am biased :-) but it's a great shop in a beautiful building (an old listed Victorian dairy) on a beautiful street (Amwell Street which is Islington/Clerkenwell). You scoop your own stuff into your containers from home - Cath weighs the empty container, you fill it, she weighs it again and then you pay for what you put into it. There's a 50p discount if you bring your own container. Otherwise she has re-usable sturdy zip-lock bags in a few sizes. You can re-fill all your Ecover cleaning products as well. I haven't done it yet but it occurred to me to bring an empty pepper mill down there and just stick the peppercorns straight in there!

Agree with themags.

Have been there a few times. Love the building, love the people, love the concept and love the products.

I find it best for grains and bulk items but they do a great job with their fruits and vegetables as well

Plus their olive oil is fantastic, organic and you fill it yourself!
