"New" label on unread posts

Why is this so inconsistent? Some pages show the new label on posts I haven't read, some don't. Sometimes I'll be reading back through a thread and the "new" label only shows up on every other page. This has been going on for months and months and months and is very annoying.

If I haven't read a board in a while, I will start on p.1 and keeping going back, looking for interesting posts I'd like to see, until I see a post that doesn't have a new label. That means I read it and I'm now caught up to where I left off last time. I can't do that if the whole page has no labels.

  1. That has happened to me before and what I did to fix it was just to logout and then log back in. That did the trick, for me anyway.

I have the same problem as marcia2. Inconsistent -- the "new" label will show up in one board but be completely absent in another. Logging in and out changes nothing for me.

I've found that if I haven't read a particular board in ages (or never for that matter), then there are NO "new" markings until I've opened at least one thread. Then on the front page of that board - presto, all the "new" marks will be there. It's like it doesn't recognize you being there at all until you've looked at at-least one thread in the past xx days.
