looking for Lowell pubs with good food and good beer lists

Any suggestions for lowell area pubs? An interesting menu, or else a terrific rendition of the standard pub menu (burgers, etc.), is a must, as is a very good beer list. A microbrewery/brewpub would be ideal, but with Concord Brewery gone, I don't think there's anything left like that...?

Any suggestions?

I think your best bet would be to drive 30 minutes down 495 to the Horseshoe Pub in Hudson. Food is standard pub fare but they have around 80 taps.

Or...drive 25 minutes north on Rt3 to downtown Nashua and have a sandwich at the Nashua Garden. The place is small but they rotate a nice selection of beers on tap and stock an interesting bottle selection as well.

Thanks, all. If we're adding Nashua to the mix, I'd add Matha's Exchange as a recommendation. Interesting food, sometimes poorly executed, but mostly very good, and terrific beer.

On the New England board, do a search and also search posts by lexpatti.

There is a brew pub across the street and a parking lot from UMass-Lowell's recreation center, Sorry, don't have more details.

i spend a few days/nights a week in downtown lowell, and you're not going to find what you're looking for. most of the bars cater to college kids, and good food + sophisticated beer lists isn't what gets them in the doors.

there is a beer works right by lalecheur park (homefield for the spinners). beer is good, food is ok.

village smokehouse has a good selection of draught beer, but the food is pretty lousy.

old court has a good selection of beer on tap too and the food is ok.

although everybody seems to have it on tap, i've yet to get a proper guinness, so there ya go.
