New Specials Menu at Sakura

Not sure how long this has been going on, but last night at Sakura they had an additional menu with special items on it. Lots of them sounded good. We tried a few that were really tasty - spicy seafood salad, black cod baked in foil with mushrooms, fried sea bass with spicy sauce, and fried salmon collar w/ ponzu.

Seafood salad had lots of raw fish - squid, tuna, salmon - and raw veggies in a spicy dressing. The black cod was incredibly delicious, though the piece of fish was really tiny.

A lot of the items sounded really good - definitely worth checking out.

  1. is this menu either handwritten or typed w/ Japanese translation and given to you at the table as an additional menu to their multi-paged, printed one?

It's typed, with some additional handwritten items attached to it, and it's additional to the printed one.

I think that's the same one I'm thinking of. I think they've had that 2nd menu for almost a year now. BTW, I LOVE their agedashi mochi!! Can't get enough of that crispy, chewy fried sticky rice!

Interesting. I didn't think it'd been a year since my last dinner visit, but I suppose it's possible.

    2. Where is this Sakura?
Is it the one in W. Los Angeles on Centinela?

No problem, there are a few restaurants in the Los Angeles area named Sakura and I've seen the name in other cities too.
Their new offerings looked pretty good.

      1. The last few times I have been there for dinner I have gotten the second menu. Some tasty stuff, including the sea bass.

I have a friend that just started working there for lunch, need to get in and try the bento box.

        1. Great pic's Josh!

In the mall with the Original Pancake House/Wings and Things (across from the Olehausen billiard place, which is just South of where Expo used to be).

Absolutely NO signage. Drive in the parking lot and head straight back- the Army Recruiting place is in the back of the mall (NW corner) and next to it you will see a neon "Open" sign in the window. That's it.

          2. Yah, I have posted about Izakaya Sakura before, from the weary traveler point of view.

II can only report on the lunch.. Single lady, always warmly welcomed.
