Just thought I'd mention it...I'm going tomorrow for zydeco music, mudbugs and anything else good that comes from Cajun country.

BAFU, what did you think of the food? I was not very impressed. Crawfish were good, but I've had much better, and the rest of the food did nothing for me. Sampled some beans, oysters, couchon de lait poboy, alligator sausage, fried chicken, red velvet cake and was not impressed by anything I had.

Plus the tickets to get in are around $40 per person so it doesn't pay to just go there to sample the food.

$40 is a bargain for the music, I watched 6 hours of music for $40. The food was a bonus...or at least I was hoping it would be. lol

I agree that $40 is a bargain for the music. I was just forewarning people that might have gone up there primarily for the food.

Forgot to update about my visit...my bad. Crayfish (might as well spell it properly) were OK...just OK. For $8 the portion was pretty decent too. The line for po-boys was just insane by the time I was interested so I passed. Shrimp creole: good. Crayfish etouffee: excellent. Alligator sausage was just bad. Beignets: would have liked more for the $$$.

All in all, I went for the fun day out with friends, the music, the food (acceptable but certainly not LA!!!) and the chance to relax on the grass. Even brought my daughter along for the 1st time and she loved it.

Yes: $40 entry fee is steep. All in all a fun day though.

Since these mudbugs are brought in from LA let's give them the respect they deserve and spell it right - Crawfish. Up here Crayfish. Which for the record was the only thing aside from the jambalaya that was decent. Call me a snob because we just got back from Jazz Fest a few weeks prior or because I can sneeze a better plate of Shrimp Creole, but the food was lousy. There's no excuse. Michael brings in vendors from the New Orleans area they should be able to get the basics right. I don't mind paying $40 to get in. Hell, I'd dish that out just to see Tab Benoit, let alone the Radiators in Jersey!

I agree j.ho. Having just returned from the second weekend of Jazz Fest and being from New Orleans, and recently transplanted, Michael either needs to find new vendors or make sure the ones he brings up bring their A game.
Last year I had the pheasant quail and andouille gumbo, which Prejeans came up and did. Normally at Jazz Fest I can eat that a few times per day, but up here it just wasn't as good. Is it a location thing? Is it something in the water? Who knows, but the food at the CFF does not hold a candle to the food at Jazz Fest, or most food you can get in New Orleans.
