Easy veggies to grow in a shady spot

lilmomma May 29, 2009 12:38 PM

Is there such a thing that I can grow inthe shady part of my yard that I don't need to worry about like raspberry bushes or something?

Raspberry is a good bet. Lettuce and other leaf vegetables can tolerate some shade. Wintergreen also, and, of course, mint will grow anywhere! Also lemon balm...

my kale from seedling did well in a pretty darn shady spot last year. the seed did not. also, lettuces worked. I always thought raspberries needed lots of sun? perhaps I was wrong on that one, I thought most fruits needed sun.

Raspberries prefer full sun and produce best with it, but I have raspberries in a partly shaded site (definitely less than 6 hours of sun, mostly morning sun) and they are quite productive.
