state or county fairs?
i am new to westchester county so I was wondering if there are any fairs that highlight good country food

The Columbia County Fair (www.columbiafair.com) is "always over Labor Day" and it's about as "country fair" as a county fair gets. Good local food plus fair staples, nice people, clean safe atmosphere, good entertainment.

The Westchester County Fair isn't what I would call a "country fair", I think you are better off going further up to Dutchess or those surrounding areas.

Also not Westchester ... last summer we went to a bbq county fair that was just in/near (?) New Paltz on what I think was a county fairground. It was a ton of fun.

Not exactly Westchester County, but fun nonetheless is the New York State Fair, held in Albany in late Aug/early Sept. Also, the Eastern States Exposition (The Big E) is held in Springfield MA in late Sept. THAT is a good one for foodies (lobster rolls, chowder, blueberry cobbler, Vermont cheeses, etc. etc.) There is also the Garlic Festival which is held in the Catskills, which has been discussed previously on this board (you can do a search). All are a couple of hours drive from Westchester.

re: shoekittykat
Well-Newspapers or local event websites such as lohud.com or westchestermagazine.com could be a starting point. Even New YorkTimes' Friday Weekend section has "Northern" events in it.
Or you could get some ideas from the web sites that I and others posted within this thread.
And continue search for events on your own.
