Lunch/Brunch for Vegan

Any recommendations for Lunch/Brunch in the approximate area of Melrose and La Cienega? We have a Vegan in the group (no eggs, dairy, meat or fish). I'd appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!

second the ability of Hugo's to meet all needs, albeit a bit saltlessly.

      will also toss in:
      Newsroom Cafe on Robertson
M Cafe de Chaya on Melrose
      Eat Well on Santa Monica

RFD is great for the vegan in the group, but the carnivores may not be too crazy about the idea.

Well the food is good for meat eaters also--but check out M Cafe in Beverly Hills close to their. They have fish.

i think the m cafe de chaya hollywood location might be closer:
              7119 Melrose Avenue
              Hollywood, CA 90046

              Telephone: 323.525.0588

i LOVE their Big Macro veggie burger!

This is pointless, but it annoys me to no end that I can't edit my typo and change their to there.

        1. Flore Cafe used to have an all you can eat vegan brunch for $10. I haven't been, but friends say it's awesome.

Oh my bad, didn't see the Melrose/La Cienega bit. Well, for future reference.

I second M Cafe de Chaya, though it's a bit on the slighly pricey side, but not excessively so. I'm not so hot on Newsroom Cafe. Never been to Eat Well or Hugos, but heard good things about Hugo's.

Thanks for the ideas!! I should have thought of M Chaya myself. I want to like Newsroom but not even the Vegan in my group likes it, oh well. I will have to tell her about Flore , I don't think she knows about that one!

one more idea that's a couple of miles... Sante La Brea on La Brea... healthy cuisine and vegan-friendly.

              1. re: Emme

ok, now i KNOW i've been gone too long...i can't believe i forgot about Sante La Brea!

                1. re: goodhealthgourmet

That place is disgusting--check out Gordon Ramsay's show. The food doesn't taste good also.

          2. Maybe Mani's? It's abot 2 miles from Melrose and La Cienega and vegan friendly...

i don't know about that one, consensus seems to be that only raging health nuts like me enjoy the food at Mani's :)

              1. re: goodhealthgourmet

I'd rather go to Mani's than Santa La Brea.

                1. re: apple7blue

                  1) i posted that 2 years ago.
                  2) Mani's no longer exists.

                  1. re: goodhealthgourmet

That's news to me, I drive by there often enough--what's in its place?

                    1. re: apple7blue

in the old space on Fairfax? Black Cat Bakery. Mani's moved to Maple Drive in BH last October, and closed permanently less than 3 months later.

            2. Well if you might go to M. Chaya in culver city, then you're not too far off from CASA DE TREE, a new vegan "deli" joint on Motor, just north of Venice Blvd...it's right next to the Post Office. They have a super tasty buffet on the weekdays, don't know about the weekends.

I am pretty sure they're considering M Cafe at Melrose and La Brea...

                1. re: Emme

We did end up at M Chaya at Mel Rose and LaBrea but thanks for all the ideas. Several of these I didn't know about so we'll have some new places to try next time!

Any recommendations for M Cafe de Chaya? I am going there tomorrow and have never been...

                    1. re: mdpilam

i can't vouch for it myself, but everyone *raves* about the dandelion-chickpea salad and the kale with spicy peanut sauce.
