Zahav for big appetites?

A few friends and I would like to explore this recipient of much accolade. We are all big eaters and realizing it is a small-plates theme are concerned about the portions / price.

How many plates might be necessary to satisfy large male eaters in their early 30's? Will cost be exorbitant? Any specific recs appreciated!

Thanks very much!

I remembered this post and wanted to tell you that the Zahav roasted lamb shoulder dinner is a ton of food. I went there with a large group of guys and we walked away totally stuffed, and really enjoyed the meal. It's $42 a person for it, but drinks can add up quickly. Here's my writeup of it (with pics):

I would consider myself a big eater, and after getting the $36 prix fixe I was very satisfied. Even though the plates are small, they're spaced enough to let your stomach catch up with your eyes, and it seems like there's always food on the table. My brother can eat more than I can, and he wasn't hungry afterward, either.

Ditto. I can definitely put food away (esp for a girl) and there was ALMOST too much food. It's so delicious you'll manage to finish it, I'm sure. I was especially impressed by the desserts because I feel like many restaurants don't focus as much on them as they might - Zahav's on the other hand are amazing.

I agree with jaba and barryg, just get the $36 prix fixe. If you think you need more, you can order more, it's mostly small plates and most of them come out of the kitchen pretty quickly.

My favorite dishes there are the crispy halloumi, fried cauliflower, hummus-tehina, kibbe naya, chicken freekah, fried kibbe, and 'the Bulgarian'.

When I had the prix fixe Passover dinner here, we left stuffed.

if you don't mind spending $36/person, their prix fixe (called the TA’YIM) is a ton of food. Most of it is outstanding.

My husband and I really thought Zahav was terrific. I remember that we were so stuffed that we passed on dessert. Some of the things that we particuarly enjoyed were the hummus, lamb kebabs, Crispy haloumi, and the salad sampler. We also had wonderful specialty cocktails. I'd say that it is similar to Amada and Tinto regarding price and that it is tapas. I'd highly recommend it.
