Hi
My husband and I will arrive at our midtown East (42nd bet. Second & Thirds aves.) hotel about 8 pm. We will be famished but in need of a walk and drink. We also don't want fancy. We're looking for good bar food in a very casual setting. I like the menu at Stout and also Waterfront Ale House. We're doing more upscale dining later in the week. Any advice for a snacky food & drinks kinda place?
MANY THANKS!!

For a good solid Irish bar try Patrick Conway's

If you like Turkish food, you might want to consider going to Ali Baba, on 34th St., b/t 2nd & 3rd Avs., and sharing a variety of their tasty mezzes. The "lahmacun" (a Turkish-style pizza) is excellent.

thanks for both responses! Been wanting to try Turkish since Bourdain had a giant feast (in Germany, I think)

I'm not so up on bars in that area but....

It's different and very good, try Saka Gura 211 E 43rd St.
Downstairs in an office building it has an awesome array of japanese food and drink.

Another option if you want to grab something and walk: Two Boots Pizza in Grand Central Terminal. Its just downstairs and is an awesome option for a new york slice with a twist. There are various quick an easy eats in the terminal, including ice cream and cocktails.

You can also try Crisp for easy middle eastern snacks. 43rd and 3rd

my dad's fave deal is the clam chowder at the Oyster Bar in GCT downed with a beer. the atmosphere can't be beat and its the cheapest most filling thing on the menu if I'm not mistaken.
