private room for 50-60. walking distance to 23rd and 7th/8th?
Hi, 'hounds!
I'm looking for a private room or venue for 50-60 people on a Saturday night in July. We need to be walking distance to 23rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, where we'll end up around 11-11:30. Must have both food and drink.
BBQ, the convenient choice is both too loud and the food was abysmal last time we tried it. Food does not need to be fancy, but hopefully more than just barely edible.
I'm reaching out to East of Eighth to see what they can accommodate but that's all I know of offhand, and my Google-fu has not gotten me very far.
Thoughts? Recommendations?
Many thanks!

There are several bbq places in that vicinity. Which one was abysmal the last time you were there?
It would appear you are open to cuisines other than bbq, but do you have any specific preferences? Does it have to be a sit-down dinner? And what is your per person budget for food only (drinks, tax & tip additional)?

Yes, it is Dallas BBQ that I was referring to. The only thing good about it was the massive drinks.
We are definitely open to various cuisines, with no specific preferences. We are trying to keep the costs reasonable since everyone will be paying their own way, so $20-30 per person, food only.
It does not need to be a sit down dinner but there needs to be places for people to sit.
Thanks, all! Greatly appreciated.

re: nomistone
Acc. to their website, Bar Stuzzichini, on B'way, b/t 21st & 22nd, has a private room that can accommodate 60. They do Italian small plates. I haven't been there, but our daughter has, and she said the food's pretty good.

Crispo might be able to accomodate you in their back garden area. The food there is great! The Park is also an idea - not sure if they have a private room, but it's spacious there and they'd probably be able to make a nice area for you. Punch on Broadway is nice, and I think their upstairs is available for parties. Blue Smoke has great food, and an upstairs balcony that may be big enough. Those are the only ideas off the top of my head, but I'll think a little more on this one....
