I know Tu y Yo has them but anyplace else? Maybe someplace with less expensive food? I'm dying to try TyY but the prices are high and it's not near my house... So yeah, anyplace else with micheladas would be just about right.

Yes they are quite easy to make- the key is lots of ice and to salt the rim and use lots of lime juice, IMHO. Ole in inman square made me a good one a couple years ago.

Micheledas with tomato juice are definitely the most "traditional" but from my experience less often made these days. When ordering in Mexico I have never had one made with tomato juice, and think I prefer it this way!

I've never had one, but my former babysitter told me that they had "Clamato" in them... which is why I dare not try it.... (I don't do clams- not my thing) But, if its just tomato juice and beer, -- I might try it.

The original michelada does have clam juice in it -- ideally from fresh-shucked clams that you get to eat alongside the beverage, sadly more often from Clamato -- but it's not at all rare to find ones that don't. If in doubt, ask.

Thanks for all the replies! We've got some options.

@thegirlwholovestoeat, while it's true that most bars would have the ingredients, it doesn't mean they will all make them well. Consider that all bars have the stuff to make a martini, but not all bars are known for making good martinis.

Can't wait to have some spicy beery action this summer.

Just one last thing- Budweiser has a michelada and clamato michelada out. I bought a 24 ouncer maybe a year back sort of as a joke/test of how much they could destroy a tasty concept, and to my extreme surprise it actually was fairly good. I strongly prefer to make my own but if that is impossible its not a bad alternative.

As a faithful Beeradvocate and CH, fecalface must report that both the Bud and Bud Light Cheladas have Clamato in them, and both receive a D- on Beeradvocate. Not so hot. Based on personal experience, fecal suggests trying one of the hand-made versions at a local establishment.

We actually just started making our own, which was the way to go all along. Soy sauce, Worcestershire, Tapatio, and lime juice. Mmm.

But as far as the Bud Cheladas, I like them. I'm not surprised they would do poorly on Beeradvocate, but they are quite refreshing. However, not a viable alternative for a well made Mich.
