Best strawberry shortcake

Andria May 26, 2009 07:18 PM

Just planning ahead and dropping hints for my August birthday... who makes the best strawberry shortcake? Years ago, I used to get a great one at the Viennese Pastry shop in Pointe-Claire, but I haven't been there in years.

I am also open to other options, so what is your favorite cake (place and flavor)?

I'm not sure but you should check if Rockaberry on St-Denis make some, if they do, it ought to be good!

The best cake usually comes from Dawns Dessert. Google it and embrace the glory.

Even Rockaberry gets their desserts from there.

I've had their shortcake for my birthday atleast 10 to 15 times, it's delicious.

I just wanted to chime in and say that Patisserie Bel-Air makes the best Strawberry Shortcake, I was on a mad hunt for this because when I was little I had this as my birthday cake and it is my absolute favorite of all time but for some reason it's not that popular with bakeries anymore.

I had one ordered for my birthday a couple of months ago and it was absolutely scrumptious, the cake was fresh, soft and fluffy, loaded with ripe strawberries.

I'm so glad that I found this site that referred me to them.

Is it always available there? Can only be ordered as a birthday cake?

Try Cafe dLUX on Decarie for a great strawberry shortcake. You can order in advance too for birthdays, etc. I just ordered a very good Tiramisu sheet cake for my parents' anniversary, and have had their shortcake before. They occupy the former La Tulipe Noire space in the Ruby Foo's Hotel, and the Tulipe Noire head pastry chef now works for them. They still have some of the old Tulipe Noire favourites including their famous Dream Pie!

Been to Cafe dLUX before several times. Never seen strawberry shortcake there.

Do any of these places deliver the cake?

I'm without transporattion options to get there.

If not, is there a good patisserie near downtown Montreal (McGill area)?

                    Thanks!

I haven't had a good strawberry shortcake in YEARS and it's my favorrite... My step-grandma used to make the most slayin' homemade shortcake with fresh picked strawberries and ice cream when I spent summers at her country house in Pittsburg New Hampshire, and I'd kill to experience that again... doubt I'll ever find anything like it though!

Picked one up from Rockaberry's last night... major waste of twenty bucks!!

This is no strawberry shortcake, whip cream cake maybe. Yuk!

In season, Café du Théâtre du Nouveau Monde near Place des Arts has on its dessert menu a delicious version with an original biscuit recipe (not a sponge cake).

The Gourmet Privilege on St. Charles in Kirkland makes real good strawberry shortcake. We have ordered from them frequently & have never been disappointed. Can't speak to the GP location at JT Market.
