Besides Schwartz's Deli

Can you recommend any place in addition to the above? Maybe with a shorter line?
Is Schwartz's turkey smoked?

Quebec Smoked Meat has real smoked turkey, not sure if you need to order it first, but it's the real deal.

Smoked Meat Pete in Ile Perrot is the only place I eat smoked meat. Theirs is perfectly spiced, always hot and moist and oh..... those fries - fried, drained and re-fried. It is most definitely worth the trip.

The turkey sandwich at Schwartz's is just deli-roll turkey. Nothing special and I wouldn't go there just for that. I don't think you can get Schwartz's "real" smoked turkey outside of Xmas, can you? On the other hand, you can get half a smoked chicken with the combo special anytime - it's delicious and comes with lots of spice (and a mountain of smoked meat and rye bread).

Tip: re the line - go during off-peak hours - they open at 8 am everyday and close as late as 2:30 on Saturday. :-)

Smoked Meat Pete's is on Ile Perrot - it's my meat-eaters' fave place for smoked meat after Schwartz's. It gets busy at peak times too but it has live blues music many nights of the week and has a fun atmosphere.

Prolly worth mentioning that Schwartz's now has a take-out space nextdoor to the original deli. Haven't been since the opening so don't know what, if any, effect it's had on the take-out and eat-in queues.

The new take-out space was closed last time I was by there, but it was during the winter. Maybe it's open now?

Dunno. I've still got a couple of years to go before it's time for my once-a-decade visit.

The online menu lists take-out turkey breast for $10.95 a pound and smoked spiced whole turkeys by special order only. www.schwartzsdeli.com/index_eng.html

Yeah, I don't know if that turkey breast listed is just sliced deli-roll turkey. Every time I've asked them about real smoked turkey they told me it's deli-roll only unless you special order. I'd be glad to be mistaken though... loooove smoked turkey and last time I had it I was very wee.

Lesters Might be by special order only but you have to call and ask

It was open wkends during the winter. Should be open every day during the summer. I went there mid-aft on a Saturday recently (to the take-out side) and there were 2 ppl in front of me. Brilliant.

I am pretty sure they still have real smoked turkey at Lesters. I just ordered a huge package for a brunch in April...

The only turkey I've seen at Schwartz's has been smoked. Deliciously, I might add.

Lesters on Bernard street in outremont has the best smoked turkey I ever had and the smoked meat is great too. It's like schwartz but I think even better! Similar restaurants but lesters makes incredible brisket.

Snowdon deli on dacarie is another favorite deli of mine. They make a mean club roll and the. Kosher style sides are awsome! Verenikas, Romanian eggplant, cheese belintzes...

Smoked meat Petes is far from downtown but gets alot of hype..I think it's in the west island ?

Also the Main on St laurent is good across from schwartz's and a little down ...

Thanks for this, I had no idea Lesters' had real smoked turkey!

Im craving it right now! I am not sure if you have to order it in advance. Maybe not.... but they catered a brunch /lunch for me and it was a hit..
I was actually at the New York deli in Hong Kong in October and they carried Lesters Smoked Meat. They export! it was good even from so far Mmm

I don't think the Lesters smoked meat that you can buy packaged is the same as the Lesters restaurant - they're two different entities, if I'm not mistaken.

No they are not seperate. The restaurant is where you can also order packaged take out.

No they are not seperate. The restaurant is where you can also order packaged take out. I'm pretty sure the lesters hotdogs you buy in the supermarket is all from the same lesters family.

The Lester's hotdogs available is not from the same family as the Lester's deli on Bernard. In fact, they have sued each other over the years, relating to this confusion(these two Lester's entities produce their own different smoked meat, among other meats).
