looking for little gem lettuce

I was just wondering if anyone has come across little gem lettuce salad in Los Angeles recently or knows of any markets where they are selling this type of lettuce right now. I just returned from a trip to Portland where I had the most amazing little gem lettuce salad.... and was hoping that I might be able to find something a little closer to home where I can satisfy this craving.

  1. little gem is a cross between romaine and butter lettuce. it's crisp, but has good flavor. the only place i remember seeing it is at coleman family farms at the santa monica wednesday market.

    1. FIG restaurant in the Fairmount Miramar hotel in Santa Monica has a little salad with little gem lettuce (menu on their website). I didn't try that dish specifically, but I really enjoyed my dinner at FIG last week. Since they are so close to the farmers market in SM and pride themselves on their farmer's market offerings, you probably can buy it at the SM farmers market, I'll look out for it when I go tomorrow.
