Seattle - very special birthday dinner

Hi-
My husband has a special birthday approaching (I won't tell you the number!) and I want to take him somewhere very special and private/romantic. I've thought about the small private dining room at Canlis but not sure I want to spend an extra $150 on top of the already very high wine prices there (and food's not too cheap, either). Any other suggestions?? Thanks!

I would recommend Rovers. The service and atmosphere is professional and the tables are arranged spaciously, they may even may be able to accommodate a more private dining experience. The food is wonderful and it's all about the food and wine not the view or scene.

Consider Shez Chea. I think it is very romantic. The food is great (not quite as great as Rovers or Canlis) but a bit easier on the wallet, and the atmosphere and view are wonderful.

I second Rovers. Le Gourmand and Cafe Juanita are also very good choices. None of these is going to be private, but they are all elegant, with highly professional service, and not too noisy.

I would love to give you another suggestion but if I'm not mistaken, Canlis is the only restaurant in town with a private room small enough for two. I have seen the room your talking about and it is absolutely breath taking! I was thinking about reserving this same room for my wife's birthday in August. Since they hired their new chef, the dishes have been much more... amazing and deliciuos. I have been to Canlis a hand full of times and never been let down. The service is immaculate. The view is beautiful. The food is a step above any other restaurant in the city.

Sorry that this post might not be helpful to you. My wife and I are just sold on Canlis! I hope your husband enjoys his (mysterious) birthday. Cheers!
