I am making a road trip to either Jasper or Cleveland, TN in a few weeks. Can anyone recommend any local, authentic restaurants for me to try? Thanks!

Pretty slim pickens. Cleveland has some exotic place that serves wild meats-owned by Allen Jones, the king of payday check cashing not sure of the name of it. Haven't been to Jasper in years. There was once a fabled hotel with a lunch of incredible Southern food but that was 50 years ago

Thanks. So far I've found a place called Southern Smokehouse in Cleveland. I will try to find the name of the place you mentioned.

Try Cafe Roma in the downtown historic district. At lunch they have a variety of sandwiches and pastas, and at dinner they have pastas, veal dishes and fresh fish specials. If you look at other sites, they have great reviews. On Thursday nights there is live music. www.caferomatn.com
For lunch options, Gardener's Market downtown have a great deli, something you would expect in a big city, with sandwiches, baked goods, salads, awesome lemonade, and a variety of imported food, candy and beverages. They don't have a web site, but you can get directions from google.com or yahoo local when you search.
