An article in the Gaz's food blog...

.... got me wondering if there's any street BBQ-off / contest/ rib-fest thing in Montreal?
I've never noticed one in my 5 summers here, but they're pretty big everywhere else. Yknow what I mean... people come from all over with their huge BBQ rigs & ribbons for best ribs at various fairs and set up on a pedestrian street all wkend... Does it happen here?

The best Rib Fest I have been to and my boyfriend and I go with friends annually is the Brock ville Ontario Rib Fest. It's about a 2 hour drive from Montreal. Well worth the drive!!
They have a cook off going for a whole weekend. the best ribs you will ever try. people enter into this competition and its just a lot of fun. According to the hosts" This year's festival is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever." August 6 -9 is the ninth annual Brockville RibFest at Hardy Park.
The 2009 Ribber line up for Brockville RibFest are:
Jack the Ribber - London, ON NEW!
Blazin BBQ - PainCourt, ON
Gator - Florida
Camp 31 - Alabama
Hawgs Gone Wild - Florida NEW!
Silver Bullet - Fort Erie
Billy Bones - Fort Erie
Crabby's BBQ Shack - London, ON NEW!

The best BBQ contest I know of is in Calgary, BBQ on the Bow. http://www.bbqonthebow.com/
It is worth a trip just for that!

Mesquite BBQ has had a rib-eating contest the last couple of years. The next one's coming up on June 20:

Never seen that in MTL; it could probably happen at the St-Hyacinthe agriculture exhibition (http://www.expo-agricole.com/)
