We are flying into NYC to get married in April 2010 and looking for somewhere great to eat and have a relatively private reception. Doesn't have to be a private room, maybe just a private area to sit. We are being offered central park, empire state etc from websites but was looking for something a little less structure.... help!

The Metropolitan Museum of art has a rooftop bar that you could stake out a corner. No eats though. Maybe it can be a pre-wedding location. Try checking out Time out New York. Might give you some ideas. I'll think about it some more and get back to you.

Not clear what you mean by that. Perhaps you can explain. In any case, you need to give us some specifics.

      Cuisine preferences and avoids?
      Casual or fancy?
Per person budget for food only? (Beverages, nearly 9% tax & 20% tip additional)

the food at puttesca is good- close to central park and they have a private area. also innotecca downtown is popular for private parties.
