Husband and I went to FN for part of our anniversary weekend celebration. What a letdown. The ambiance is very nice but that annoying rap music did not seem to match the decor and is not what I consider dinner music.

We ordered the fondue for two and it was a disappointment. The chunks of bread and apple looked like they were just thrown on a plate. Presentation lacked big time and it was just OK as a fondue.

We also ordered the oysters - very small and unsatisfying although I did like the personal size bottle of Tabasco.

The main dishes were tasty enough but come on! For those entree prices, please throw in a vegetable! They actually make you order them as a side! My husband's beef came on mashed and looked like a heap of white and brown. We did order the side veg - a letdown. They were unimaginative, brocolli, carrots a couple of baby bok choy, plunked on a dish. There was no seasoning or flavour to speak of and, they had sweated so there was a puddle of water underneath. No excuse for that in a high end restaurant.

Dessert was fine. I will not be returning there nor will I recommend it. I had such high expectations after reading about it and it was just OK overall.

Moving along to other eats on the weekend, we stayed/ate at the AG Restaurant located in the Sterling Inn and Spa in Niagara Falls.

What an amazing dinner and such pleasant and attentive service without being intrusive. We were presented with a lovely amuse bouche. In a high end restaurant, I now expect this. I always think it's the restaurant's way of not only showing you their creativity with their chosen ingredients but also thanking guests for choosing them and giving them something extra in appreciation. Oh, and to tantillize the taste buds of course! They presented us with an amuse bouche of beef carpaccio with a zippy fiddlehead and fennel salsa in a lemon dressing. Sublime.

The creative salad with local ingredients just jumped from the plate.

Husband had the duck confit and I had the pork tenderloin. Both were superb. Hey, and guess what? They included the vegetables - local and organic.

We ended with a delicious, beautifully presented cheese tray that included a nice variety of blue, hard and soft.

We also had dessert - an amazing espresso chocolate creme brulee to die for and husband had the densest and most decadent chocolate torte.

Wow! What a dinner and thankfully, a reparative experience for the Far Niente one a few days before.

On a tangent, has anyone ever had a decent cheese fondue in a restaurant? Only one I have ever had that approached what you can do at home was at the Chateau Lake Louise. There uses to be an ok place in Delisle Court, where Cava is now, but even that wasn't 100%

I hear Barberian's on Elm has a fondue on their late night A.K.A. after theatre menu. Haven't tried it but would be interested to know if anyone has.
