I am staying at the Ritz in Dana Point this weekend over Memorial Day with my wife and 2 kids (3 1/2 & 6 1/2) and my father, his wife and his 3 1/2 year old (don't ask). The kids are pretty good when eating out, we want recs for places for lunch and dinner local to the hotel. Thank you in advance.

I must warn everyone, don't ever go to Olamendis! Horrible service, crap food, very bland. I have no idea why it is packed, I am losing hope day by day on the American publics eating habits. It's like if they give you alot of food people love it, even if it sucks!

Did you try any of the recs? And Olamendis does suck. I hope you had good meals at some point during your vaca.

We ate at Ichibiri which was really good and fun for the kids. I live in Irvine so I knew the area decently from surfing at Salt Creek all these years. I actually didn't see the recs until sunday, I forgot to check them, LOL.

Check out Madison Square for a fun breakfast or lunch-it's just north of your hotel a few miles up PCH. A combo restaurant/nursery/gift shop. Very charming, converted from an old house and next to landmark The Cottage (not so good, avoid that place). Great for kids, cause people bring their dogs and you can let them wander around a bit if you want to linger over coffee.

Also, walking distance from the hotel is Cafe Mezzaluna. Next to the Starbucks, has outdoor tables and good breakfast paninis. Fun people watching and very casual. I think you would enjoy either of these. No website I could find, but you can't miss it.

As I was typing this, my partner said don't forget to tell them about the Coyote Grill. Again, just north of your hotel on PCH in South Laguna, with a killer view and mostly locals-lots of families. Food is not drop-dead, but certainly good. Primarily Mexican, but they have wonderful fried chicken (recipe came from the previous owners, been making it since the 60s), Baby Back ribs and other non-Mexican dishes. Open for B/L/D.
