Best taco truck in the Bay Area?
I'm on a search for the best taco truck in/around San Francisco to cater an event. I'm tempted to broaden my search to the state of California (ok, maybe only as far south as LA). Is that crazy? Help!
Must have great carnitas and/or al pastor (pork!). Good veggie/seafood options major bonus. Cute truck/good service nice to have.
This weekend we plan to try a few:
El Tonayense, 22nd/Harrison (been there, good)
Tacos el Primo, Hunters Point (they have ceviche)
Am I missing one that will blow my mind?? My test is tacos with the aforementioned pork. What's yours?
Hoping Bay Area taco trucks are as good as LA. Thanks in advance!
There was a report just a couple of days ago from someone who hired the El Ojo de Agua truck in Oakland for an event and was quite pleased. San Francisco proper is not particularly rich in taco trucks (I'm told the permits are expensive and have conditions that make them hard to get). Oakland has dozens of taco trucks and the North Bay is also well-served with taco trucks.
We could narrow down the search if you told us where your event was going to be. Also, there's no such thing as "the best" taco truck, as they all have different strengths and weaknesses. The aforementioned El Ojo de Agua has good al pastor, but I'm drawing a blank on their carnitas. I'm not sure if I've ever even ordered their carnitas, because the truck across the street has great carnitas, and so if I want carnitas, I order from them.
Actually, though, a good place to start might be with El Grullo (Oakland) -- they have several trucks and I think their carnitas is very good.
re: Ruth Lafler
That would be me :) I detailed things in the following thread a couple of days ago.
This was for the day before our wedding and our wedding planner went to many of the taco trucks on East 14th/International Blvd and the vicinity and the one she picked was one of the best and they were willing to come out to our place. Check the above thread for more info.
Note that if the event is in San Francisco you may have to use an SF based truck as I'm not sure many Taco Trucks will cross the bridge (I asked one of the ones in SF and they would not come across to Oakland but would do events in San Francisco).
