Late night in Albany NY
I have to pick up my wife from the airport @ 10 pm on a Friday night. I'd like to get a bite to Eat for us after her long flight from LA. Are there options? Anything from a high end restaurant to a a Taco truck will do as long as it's good. and open. I am also open to some good but not too messy take out I can pick up before hand, since we have to get back to New Lebanon NY that night.
And If anyone has suggestions for our weekend in New Lebanon I have posted a query here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/621840
I think you meant 11 pm which would make it tight but not impossible and might be my take out option before Pickup. Though a Torta Might be best in that situation they don't seem to have it on the menu. I wonder if you walk in there is a spanish menu with things you don't find on the english one like Cabeza, Lengua and Nopalitos. I will say it will be hard to live up to the standards of an LA taco but given the options. it might be the best choice.

re: Mattapoisett in LA
No, it's not near a taco truck, and nothing too unusual about the menu. The owner is American and his wife is Mexican--young couple. I love their fish tacos. Brought a friend there once after picking him up at the Albany airport; he was resistant as he lived in NM on the border and had access to great Mexican food (and knew what New England Mexican was like, having grown up here.) He ended up loving the place.
I would check out New World Bistro Bar
It's open until midnight on Fridays. And it is one of the few places in Albany to actually resemble a real restaurant. It has a whole range of options from bar snacks to full meals. It may be a bit of a haul from the airport, but I'd say it's worth it.
Plus they have parking in back.
I have the same issue when Amtrak gets in after 8:30 pm on Friday night. Daniel B's New World Bistro Bar is a good suggestion. You might want to look at Barcelona (I have not been) www.barcelona-albany.com. Their website doesn't show their hours. You might want to consider a diner. Latham has 1776, open 24 hours (near 87/Northway).
This is a thread where I was looking for late night dining options:
So where did you wind up? Personally, if I were meeting someone at the airport late at night after a long flight, I would not drive into Albany for a repast as the airport is located in Colonie, NY. Finding your way around the city may be a problem, a further problem may be finding a place to park in the city. This may take longer than the flight from LA.
My advice is to eat in Colonie. Wolf road is a stones throw from the airport and there is a famous saying around here no one can starve on Wolf road as it sports restaurants of every sort and budget. Many are chains, but some of the hotels have good food. For plain inexpensive food I would suggest the Wolf Road Diner. Plenty of parking and near all the interstate highways so you can be on your way with the least hassle.
So did you drive your wife into the city late at night after a very long trip for a bite to eat? If so did she try to strangle you?
