Ancient posts that I was a part of reappear after years?

Why is it that someone answers a post after many years, that post comes up, and I find that the thread went on for several years without ever coming up on "mychow". The responses are great; I see where I answered; but ... nothing until years later when someone replies ...

An example: "Best and Worst Cooking Shows" re-appears; I had some contributions to the thread; heard nothing until now; and see that the thread went on for a couple of years without me.

  1. They recently changed the sort on "My Chow".

If you look at the area below 'my recent posts' you will see "Sort by: recent activity | my post date "

If you click on "my post date" it changes the sort back to the way it was for quite a while where the old posts did not show up when someone added a new response.

Thanks, rworange, but I still think there is something else going on. I've been recently re-united with threads that have gone on for years - well before the recent sorting changes - that left me behind and then, suddenly, pick me up again.

As someone said, you now have a "womb with a view".

Any old post that you participated since 2006 will appear if someone posts to it. Because of the way the sort was, you never saw those on your front my chow page. Because of the new tags and the links on the right of threads, people are clicking on old posts and responding to them like they are recent. I personally wish there was something that made it apparant that a post is years old, some color change or something. I'm more or less being smarter about respoding to these old posts, but I still get sucked in occasionally. The many new people that show up daily and see an interesting link to the right of the page have no clue that they may be responding to a post that is years old.

It might be possible that you are correct about something else going on. At first I thought the same thing, but when I looked closely at the post it is just an old post popping up.

There might be some other weird thing going on, but I can't pin it down to whether it is a problem.

The other thing that changed is that as of a couple of weeks ago when somebody added to a prior thread that you participated in, the topic now goes to the top of your first page. Previously, the topic was only elevated to the top of the page where it was resting.

Ahh, this may be it! My old posts were bobbing up and down on page 52 or the like. Thanks.

        3. Hermano, I think you should be on high alert if you see an entree named
          "Sammethuselah Musar".

          1. I came across one of your ancient posts, Sam - the one where you advised this desert tribe that manna was best served with fresh locusts.

            1. IMO the main reason is the so-called 'logic' behind the Related topics listed on page Right.

The titles look relevent so folks will dive in and respond, often without checking for staleness.

More evidence of inadequate testing or other unintended consequences.

However I do enjoy reading old topics outside of the restaurant oriented region boards e.g. Home Cooking.

Yeah, those related topics (aka the XXX BOARD DISCUSSIONS" list on the right) has really boosted the revival frequency of old threads.

From what I've observed, the chow SW does a quick-and-dirty search for keywords (or tags, or something), and usually comes up with truly ancient threads. A newbie or distracted old chowhound is unlikely to notice the old posting dates of the thread. After all, why should they? Chow just highlighted those threads as significant.

Me, I've been "caught" several times this way.
