Ethiopian in Stamford/Norwalk area?

My GF is dying to try an Ethiopian restaurant, (I have no idea why), but the closest one I can find is in the Bronx.

Anyone out there know of a place around Stamford/Norwalk, or if there are any potential plans of one opening in the area?

  1. None in Fairfield County that I'm aware of, but there are a few in New Haven.

    Both are very good. Our friends from Ethiopia prefer Lalibella. The Caffe Adulis site wasn't working for me, hopefully they haven't closed.

      Cool - the Lalibella one looks interesting. I had to look up and see what "berbere" and "injera" are. It looks like something worth trying, although heading up to New Haven and NOT going for pizza seems like a sin.

    2. As stated, there are none in Fairfield. As to the point, "I have no idea why" ... well... perhaps you should try. Ethiopian food has a very well developed culinary culture. Great food. Keep your mind open, my friend.

      If you are in the southern section of Stamford/Norwalk and don't want to head to New Haven, I recommend checking the Outer Boroughs board as there are some good places in the Bronx, or the Manhattan board for some up in the Upper West side.

        I'm willing to try new stuff. She tried to get me into Indian and it's not my thing, but reading up on the spices used I'm open to try Ethiopian. That's why I posted here, where the foodies congregate!

        We're gonna try the New Haven one cteats mentioned at some point in the near future.

      2. So we tried Lalibela tonight. Very good. We did the sample thing, beef (siga wat), chicken (doro wat), lamb (yebeg kikil), and two vegetarian dishes, one was spinach and potatoes (kosta) and the other was green beans and carrots (fosolia).

        Apparently, it's traditionally eaten not with utensils but with a spongy bread called injera that you scopp the food in. Interesting, but you end up eating more bread than you may want. I know I could've asked for a fork but I figured the first time I'd just go with the flow.

        I didn't agree with the GF's comment that it was better than pizza, but I was happy that the trek up there ended in a new tasting experience that I enjoyed.

        Also, if you park at the Temple Garage just a little down the block they'll validate your parking for you!
