Good French lunch near Metropolitan Museum of Art?

shirleynj May 20, 2009 05:04 PM

Any ideas for a good (and not extremely expensive) lunch near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, preferably French. Thank you,

Cafe Boulud, on 76th St., b/t 5th & Madison, is now offering a 3-course lunch prix-fixe for $24 00 -- an absolute steal for cuisine of this superb caliber. Cordial, polished service and lovely ambiance.

That's what I was going to write until I got to this post. IMO, the UES generally isn't good for casual French.

        Another vote for Cafe Boulud!

A few blocks further east and north is Cafe d'Alsace (one of my favorite French bistros).

I've not been for a number of years, but I recall being disappointed.

Have not heard great things about Demarchelier -- actually amazingly little since I have lived in the neighborhood for many years. My favorite informal French bistro is Pascalou on Madison @93rd St. Very reasonable and always enjoy the food. It is tiny and I try to reserve ahead because the downstairs is very charming but the upstairs is cramped.
