DD will be in Lesotho for 8 weeks mid June - mid August doing foundation/internship work. She will be arriving from US via South Africa and traveling there. What foods or specialties of Lesotho should she not miss? She hopes to travel a bit to neighboring countries as well.

Also, what foods, if any, should we be sending with her that she won't be able to get in Lesotho?

Funny, I was in Lesotho for more than a week a few years ago and can't remember anything special about the food. I do remember a great chicken meal - but that was because we visited a woman's coop whose members grew, processed, and marketed their chickens. I remember their singing more than the chicken, however. Lesotho is beautiful and has a great climate - mountainous and filled with beautiful horses and riders. But the food??? Sorry!! The food in surrounding South Africa is really good, however. There is not much available in Lesotho.

Oh, and I should mention: I always search out food - especially in new places. If its there, I'll generally find it. It is rare, therefore, for me to have been to such a beautiful place and have no real food memories.

Lots of pap with and meat and veg stews, practically the same as South Africa. I missed Mexican food the most, I would have killed for some flour tortillas for a burrito, otherwise you can get just about anything in neighboring South Africa.
