Where to get good german chocolate cake in San Diego, preferably N. County?

  • 8

Any suggestions on where to get a good German chocolate cake in San Diego, preferably North County? I am hoping for a bakery suggestion rather than Costco, Vons, etc. Thanks!

  1. Try the bakery inside Major Market

I was going to suggest that, but figured that the OP might consider a grocery store (even an independent one) part of the "etc." category.

What part of North County, Coopersmom? If you are in Encinitas, south Escondido (the location of Major Market) is quite a drive. San Marcos? Not so bad.

It's unfortunate that the term "North County" gets used for regional descriptions. Even when followed by "Inland" or "Coastal," it might not tell you very much (and what would you call Vista, anyway?). But I digress...

Since the post said "preferably", I will still offer European Cake Gallery. They are in Point Loma and have limited hours, but it's a pretty yummy German Chocolate.

          damn..good call nosh!
Love the Black Forest Cake too..

    2. I've not had it so I can't vouch for it, but Elizabethan Desserts in Encinitas lists "Reverse German" as one of its available cake flavors:

      1. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am in Carlsbad so will try Elizabethan Desserts, as we are headed that way this weekend.

In case you've never been there, I should warn you that it's located inside a garden center. It might be confusing if you're just looking for it based on the address.

Note that they're closed on Sundays.
