Anyone been to Redd recently?
Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has eaten at Redd, for dinner service, in the past month and what their experience was like? Specifically what dishes are on the menu and the quality of the service?
I have reservations there for Friday night and read a couple of blogs that have me concerned about what is coming out of the kitchen in the past month. It sounds like there is a new chef in the kitchen and there has been some confusion which has reflected in the quality of the service and food. Additionally, the menu sounds like it has been "downgraded" and it is hard to find some of the food that would rate a michelin star (steak and onion rings?) I have a fall back reservation at Mustards (curious to see the renovations too) and would appreciate any feedback.

I've been to Redd twice for dinner, in January and recently in late April. Service was stellar each time - very professional, attentive but non-intrusive, not snooty. I haven't heard about the chef change, and am not sure if the new or old chef was in the kitchen the last time I dined. The April and January menus were quite similar and has an Asian slant. The glazed pork belly is popular - and for good reason. I can also vouch for the pertale sole, roasted chicken, and NY steak. All menu items were similar, if not same, as the ones featured on the current Redd website.
The kitchen seemed very well run the last times I dined (all dishes came out piping hot, good presentation, clean flavors, interesting combinations - but not knock your socks off). The service seemed extremely professional. It's hard to imagine changes would be that drastic with just a chef change.

Where did you hear about a chef and menu change at Redd. I'm googling but can't find any info.

I will confess that I use Yelp! for restaurant searches too. The last couple of reviews mentioned the problems I listed above.

My advice then is 1) stop reading Yelp, 2) eat at Redd.
I hope you report back here after you eat there, we'd love to hear what you think.

I ate there 2 weeks ago, and I was satisfied. I will admit that I wasn't as blown away quite as much as I had hoped to be (but then I had super high expectations), but my SO was blown away. There dishes were definitely intricate (not at the level of steak and onion rings). Redd is certainly leagues above Mustards; I would not substitute Redd with Mustards. There were a few stellar dishes a few good dishes and one bomb. I am working on typing up a detailed trip report... I hope to get it posted soon.

I've eaten at Redd once about 2 years ago - quite good at that time. Cannot vouch for it within the last month. However, for a "few" bucks more, and less than French Laundry, you could try Cyrus - I thought quite good and worthy of a trip...
