Best BBQ in Durham?
Heading down to do some camping in the Durham area and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good BBQ in the area.
Thanks

By Durham you're gonna really mean "slightly west of Durham and slightly north of Chapel Hill." Why? Because that puts you where Allen & Son is. It's my favorite BBQ on, yes, the planet. and this is not a NC loyalty thing - I've lived in most Southern states at some point during my life. The guy gets up at 2 a.m. every morning to chop his own hickory logs and smokes the pig for 9 hours, all the while baking 15 desserts himself. yeah, you know it's good.
Here's a short video narration and interview of Keith Allen himself to get you in the mood:

I'd say Backyard Barbecue Pitt. It is wood smoked. They also wood smoke the chicken as well.
Greens are fabulous even if you don't like greens. White potatoes don't look special, but my son they are the best he has ever eaten (may be some bacon grease in there). If you want okra, they fry it up fresh.
Very relaxed place. Friendly folks working there and most family. It's kind of like going to the school cafeteria, except the food is really good.

Along with Allen and Son, which is the best, there is
The Barbecue Joint, 630 Weaver Dairy Rd, Chapel Hill
Backyard Barbecue Pit, 5204 Hwy 55, Durham
Byrd's, 2816 Cheek Rd, Durham
Depending on where you're camping, Byrd's or Backyard could be more convenient for you.

And if you are coming after June 1st, Backyard is set to open a second location on Guess Rd.
