Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the Tristate Area

SE CT: Local, organic, affordable?

We just moved to the Stamford, CT area and are huge local, organic food people. We visited the Greenwich Farmer's Market which was a let down (too expensive and not enough organic food!). Does anyone have recommendations for us as to where we should be buying our veggies, eggs, etc. to get the best local, sustainably produced foods now that the warmer months are arriving?

Thanks for any ideas. We are willing to drive to Westchester, etc. - just need to keep it within about 15-20 minutes driving from the Stamford area.

    1. The Westport Farmers Market starts this thursday.

It is expanded from last year, and should be great. I don't know how the prices compare to Greenwich or what you are looking for, but I would give it a shot.

      1. We've had a very cold winter and it's still quite early in the season. Give the farmers markets a few more weeks and they will be bursting. Greenwich, Westport, and New Canaan will not disappoint. Also, many of the vendors produce IS organic, they just don't have the "organic farm" certification.

You may also want to consider some special trips to Stone Barns. Its probably about 30 minutes or so from Stamford.

        1. Darien has a nice one too. I think it's on Wednesdays and is pretty good. It's in the Howard Johnson's parking lot.

          1. Zeytinia in Wilton.
