Duck Breasts

Leibowitz May 18, 2009 05:44 PM

Just thought I'd let the board know frozen duck breasts are now available at Co-op Midtown (in Calgary). They keep them near the frozen kidneys and stock bones (close to the dairy aisle in the back of the store).

I don't know if other locations are stocking them, though. I know they can be difficult to find sometimes (like after 6pm), so I thought I'd mention it.

Have you tried these yet? Im thinking I will go pick some up this week. I havnt found a good frozen duck breast in Calgary, so I typically spend a few more bucks and get fresh ones from Bite.

Yeah, I tried one last weekend. Good flavour and the texture isn't very compromised by freezing. The skin crisped up well and the flesh was very meaty (done to rare). I did find them a bit difficult to score properly.
Given the choice, I'd of course go fresh, but these are fine (and cheaper). Janice Beaton and Second to None offer fresh ones, as well.
