Mushroom Hunting in NJ?

My grandparents used to head down to SJ to go mushroom hunting often, but, after grandma stepped on a snake and grandpa passed, she hasn't gone (over 15 years)

I'd like to go, but....1. Don't wanna die. 2. Don't know where to go. 3. Don't know when to go. 4. Don't know what to look for.

Any groups or organized events around?

    Just a suggestion.
Maybe this NJ group can provide you with some suggestions for safe hunting?!?

There is a NJ mycology group; unfortunately I haven't been out with them in years. See www.njmyco.org, and look into attending one of their forays.

You ABSOLUTELY should go with an experienced group. Now is the time for morels, and those are very easy to separate the edible from the poisonous. Not so with many other muchrooms. The NJ group usually has a foray in Princeton for morels.
