  1. Where have you been in and around Glendale that you either liked or would avoid the next time (to eliminate duplicating places you are familiar with)?

I've lived in Glendale 18 months and haven't tried any burger places in Glendale at all.
I get my burger fix elsewhere. I love Apple Pan, Father's Office, Moes.
I love a big juicy burger!

Maybe start with Oinkster which is in Eagle Rock. Then give the Bucket a try and see what you think. Pasadena offers Pie & Burger and Top's which would be good places to test out.

IMHO The Bucket is the best casual burger in the area. They are sourcing their meat from Figueroa Produce that grinds it for them and you can taste the difference. The best high end burger in the area is at Colombo's Italian Steakhouse on the bar menu (served for lunch and dinner). SO very very good

I second the burger at The Oinkster.

Also, the cheeseburgers at Clancy's Crab Broiler are fantastic. Went there on a recommendation from mrshankly and was really pleasantly surprised. We usually sit in the bar area, watch the game and enjoy the meaty, cheesy goodness.

Thank you both for the recs. Clancy's Crab Boiler is the surprise contender.
I would have never gone to Clancy's for a burger. I'll check it out.

            1. re: ultraviolet

I HIGHLY recommend the burger at Clancy's. It's the only thing i get there. In a city where good burgers are difficult to come by, Clancy's take the prize for a really tasty burger.

            2. re: caveatempty

What about Hamburger Central? Aren't they owned by the same guys as Clancy's? Dish in La Canada serves up a good burger, too....not far from Glendale.

        3. I love hearing about Clancy's, too... can't wait to try it.

Here are a couple from me:

Granville Cafe in the Americana has a pretty damn good burger.

And Gold Star, a small, single entity 'fast food' joint (not a chain) on Brand south of Los Feliz also has a cheeseburger I love. It is nothing fancy. Just a good solid burger, with a really nice bun and a great crunch from iceberg lettuce. I eat that one more that I should. (Gold Star also has terrific Onion Rings and a very hearty hard shell ground beef taco I like)

I will agree about Gold Star. It looks like a really greasy, cheesy place, but the staff is very attentive and the food is good! They are always cleaning in there, not what I expected from the looks of it.

It's just "order at the counter" fast food, but they throw a few Mexi favorites in there and I had a really nice grilled ham and cheese the last time I went.

I know exactly where it is, I drive past it all the time.
I will definitely give it a try. Thanks

Definitely second the Gold Star rec. The burger is the classic LA style char broiled kind with a heck of a lot of iceberg, which works in this case. The onion rings are tasty - the order is almost too big for one person - and the people are certainly obsessed with keeping the place squeaky clean.

Gotta be the frozen, "Ore Ida" style onion rings, right? They don't dip their own, do they?

                1. re: jillso

No, not frozen at all - or they don't taste like it. These are terrific onion rings.

            3. Central Burger (on Central a few blocks from the Galleria) is worth trying. I usually end up with a turkey wrap while I'm there, but I've heard positive reviews of the burgers. Their beer-battered onion rings are outstanding!

Gold Star is next on my list to try.

Do you mean Hamburger Central? If so, I agree on all counts. Corner of California and Central.

the burgers are pretty good, but I can't get past the BLTA wrap. So yummy.
