lunch/brunch near Peabody Museum

bawc May 16, 2009 01:00 PM

We are going up to cambridge and taking our almost 6 y.o with us to the Peabody museum. Any restaurant suggestions nearby for lunch/brunch? We don't need "kid food", for better or worse, he likes steak, asian food, vegetables, so long as we can get a smaller portion. I am not that familiar with Cambridge, but if we can't find parking on the street, friends suggested we park at the Charles Hotel, which I gather is nearby

Tons of stuff in Harvard Square! Bartley's burgers, for one.

Just to get you started - Peabody is outside Harvard Sq, so you can use that to search (Google addresses to see how far the walks might be...) If you can park nearish the Peabody (there's a small garage across from the Broadway Market; on Sundays I believe in general you have more on street parking available, but double check with the city) I would suggest taking a short hop (walkable for adults) to Zoe's (Szechuan..) and the great Petsi Pies, or a little further, if you like very good tacos and so on, to Tacos Lupita. Actually, you could park on Beacon, I believe, between the Peabody and Zoe's, but meters may only be for two hours, and then walk down Francis it is I think....

We are parking at the Oxford Street Garage, through the museum you can get a weekend day pass for $5, which saved us a lot of hassles with the little one in tow. Are those restaurants in that direction? My son doesn't eat pizza, but the other options could be nice. Anything near Harvard Square?

From the Oxford Street Garage, is it at most a 15 minute walk to Harvard Square, which gives you lots of options. Hi-Rise Bread Company (on Brattle St) used to do a great brunch (egg & cheese sandwiches, that kind of thing), but they've recently dramatically reduced their menu options so they might not still offer it. I also like Crema Cafe for brunch/lunch sandwiches. There are lots of other suggestions if you search the board (and here is a recent Harvard Square thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/619900).

A bit closer, the best options are probably on Beacon St (walk up Oxford St to Sacramento and turn right). Zoe's, as fredid mentioned, is good Szechuan. Across the street is Pho & Rice, a decent Vietnamese/Thai place, and Petsi Pies (which has savory quiches, pies, cookies, etc). There is also a little sandwich place a couple of blocks further up Beacon called Cafe Rustica that has consistently good sandwiches.

Thank you for your recommendations. We went to Zoe's for lunch, and picked up dessert at Petsi Pies, which was perfect!
