Chocolate Cakes from La Patisserie in Cupertino
Last Sunday, Mom was treated to a dessert sampler of chocolate cakes from Cupertino’s La Patisserie. This photo shows all three types. The slice on the left is Cafe' Vienna: layers of espresso chocolate cake with cream mocha mousse. I found it a bit dry.
The most impressive presentation was the Beggar's purse: Chocolate cake with raspberry preserves topped with chocolate mousse wrapped in rolled dark chocolate. The rolled chocolate wrapper had an interestingly chewy texture, but not much depth of chocolatey flavor.
My favorite of the three was the Chocolate truffle torte: Chocolate cake, truffle filling covered in dark chocolate ganache. This had a moist, fudgey texture, and darker, bittersweet character. The cakes had been purchased the day before, and maybe this one holds up better overnight.
