I'd try Santa Monica Seafood -- I bought some there not too long ago, but I can't remember the price.

Trader Joe's has it, in the frozen section, flash-frozen and vacuum-packed. We grilled it with teriyaki, and the second time with a lemon-dill sauce. Both times it was excellent. I found Copper River salmon in vacuum-packed frozen state at Costco about two months ago; haven't seen it since, but it was great. Prices at both places were more than reasonable. I bought some in May at Ralphs, for $16.00 a pound fresh. Not too discernable a difference between that and the frozen varieties.

Thanks for the fast replies. Do you know the prices of the salmon at TJ's?

Bristol Farms will have some throughout the season from various rivers, but their prices are high.

I've seen it at Whole Foods, but it's probably not a bargain there though.
Try Costco, as well; they have it once in a while and their prices are probably better.

Get the fresh, whether it is from Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, Gelsons or Santa Monica Seafood, or quality fishmonger of choice. There is a BIG difference in taste from the frozen.

I just got home from this quest. Whole Foods is out of wild king for the season, but I bought some from Fish King in Glendale that looks great. It was thirteen something a pound.

Gelsons was advertising it today for 15 dollars a pound. It looked beautiful

Strangely enough, fresh wild is usually available at competitive prices from the fishmonger in Farmer's Market on Fairfax. Also, check out the small gourmet market in same strip mall as Cafe Talesai in BH.

I could swear I saw wild salmon at Trader Joe's a few weeks ago.

Saw some great-looking wild Sockeye salmon at SM Seafood yesterday for $12.95/lb. P.S. Got some Manila clams...cooked'em in olive oil, garlic and white wine til they were just open...sweet and yummy!
