Murphy, NC Barbecue Sauce

On a trip to Murphy, NC around 6 to 8 years ago, I got some barbecue sauce at the flea market there in town. I'm pretty sure it was the flea market further west of the two they have.

The man that sold it to me made it himself, and I am pretty sure he was a local. It might not have been Murphy but close there I'm next to certain.

The sauce was a medium thickness and a medium color of red. The taste was sweeter to start with and then it kicked with some heat esp the hot one which is what I bought. I bought the large size which I'm thinking was either a half or full gallon. White or light gray container. Screw on lid. Kind of like a milk jug.

There was a label on the side with the contact info, but in pouring sauce, that ran down a little and smeared the label - sadly.

We've back to Murphy twice since then and hit both flea markets hoping to find this sauce. I've posted a time or two on travel area boards, but no one knew of the sauce man.

The guy not even be making barbecue sauce now, but I'd sure like to get some more if I could ever figure out who makes this and how to order it.

  1. My suggestion is to call or email their Chamber of Commerce and get the contact info for the flea market owners. They might be able to steer you in the right direction.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I sure would like to find the guy. His sauce was great.

Thanks! I can't get that sauce out of my head. The closest I've found is Stubbs out of Texas, but it's not the same. Does have that nice back kick I like.

    2. Herb's Pit BBQ in Murphy is on the NC BBQ trail. They might be able to point you in the right direction.
