Will be going to a matinee, would I need a reservation for lunch or not?

I just went this past Saturday. The food was solid, the staff very pleasant. We went for early dinner just after the Billy E. matinee. Got there late due to the show running over - We had a 5:00 reservation - when I made it they politely but firmly said "We can reserve your table for 5:00 - but you will have to vacate the table by 6:20" - I was slightly ruffled but knew where they were coming from - they have to sit and get customers out for the 8:00 shows. Well we got there late and still had to be out by 6:30 - they were firm but professional - all my way of saying - make a reservation. The food was good - solid. And it was an easy place to converse. If I am not seeing a show I would not eat there - but it's a nice theater area pick. I would go back.

You definitely need a reservation, they take them starting around 10:30 or 10:45 seven days in advance.

I would suggest you make a reservation. It's a very popular spot to eat before the show.
