Ground beef burritos

Senor Popusa May 13, 2009 02:08 PM

Does anyone have any good suggestions for where to find ground beef burritos? I am craving taco mix and ground beef style soft tacos or burritos, like I used to make in college.

I looked at a few places in the Mission this week but most only had carne asada as their beef option. (i.e plus chicken or several pork options) Do ground beef burritos exist in SF. Either eat in or take out.

Thanks hounds in advance for any advice!

Chava's, in San Francisco, at the corner of 4th and Bryant has ground beef burritos.

I think Gallegos on San Pablo and Channing/Haste in Berkeley might have what you seek. Stands to reason as they do have ground beef tacos. They have excellent mole and a thin, fiery salsa.

I have purchased them from Asian staffed "catering trucks". I have seen Lawry's Taco Seasoning containers in those trucks.

Alameda Tacqueria on Park St. Carne Molida is what they call it if I remember correctly.

I can't think of exactly who has them but I though "picadillo" is fairly common on menus. Picadillo is ground beef, tomato, onion, garlic, chile, spices - pretty much everything you put in ground beef tacos.

I know All Star Tamales sells picadillo tamales, I've never looked but they may have picadillo burritos.

Now you've made me curious and I'm going to have to start specifically looking for it.

I haven't seen it very often. On the trucks, ground beef is listed as molido on the menu, if available. Maybe the ones that sell hamburgers can improvise.

I believe you can get them at Taqueria El Buen Sabor on Valenica around 18th.
