Driving North From San Luis Obispo to Seattle

I am flying down to San Luis Obispo in June to pick up my daughter from college and drive back north to Seattle. I will probably take the 101 north from SLO to San Jose, then cut over to I-5 and head on up to Seattle. We will need breakfast lunch and dinner. Food thoughts on our trip north?

I did cross-post this on the California Chowhound, figuring they could get me to the California border. I need my fellow NW chowhounds to get me from the Oregon border to Seattle. Probably spend a night in Medford - unless there is some incredible food experiance close by.

As to food, we will try anything (I am the nut who posted the love sonet regarding Lutefisk). So the more "experimental" the better!

If this post isn't too late....
If you choose to stop for lunch short of Portland, consider Novaks (Hungarian) in Albany or if you find yourself in Salem, maybe Thai Beer (quite good, IMO, if you find yourself in the Salem area and hungry)? These can both be found in previous posts.

Check out www.mrbreakfast.com. I travel to all Oregon DUCK away games and have used this site to find breakfast places and have always gotten good advice and had some great food.

Also North of Medford, on the E side is a place called "Heaven On Earth". Milepost #86.

Never been a fan of Heaven on Earth. I find their products very ordinary.

If you stay in Medford, and you want something very special, and you're into wine, you simply can't miss New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro. Difficult to get into (try after the Shakespeare folks leave) but worth it.
If you don't want to go that route, walk around Ashland and try one of the restaurants that hits your fancy. Indian, Mex, Pizza, French, you name it. Not convinced we have a suitable asian resto. One just opened and the verdict is eh.
Best breakfast in Ashland is Morning Glory. Again a must.

PS--I'd stay in Ashland simply so you can walk around.

While in the medford area check out Rogue Creamery for some awesome blue cheese. Also their is a chocolatier next doors who makes some fine chocolates. Rogue blue cheese truffles.
          Morning glory is very good.

So you would stay Ashland rather then Medford? I only picked Medford because it is about half way home. Not real scientific, any other places to stay?

Ashland or jacksonville are within 10 miles of medford and better places to stay.
