Live Maine Lobster

Saw live Maine lobsters at 99 Ranch this afternoon on special for $6.99/lb. That's not much more than what they're paying in the Boston area right now ( see this thread from the Boston board http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/616883 ). From what I could see in the tank it looked like they ranged from 2 - 5 lbs.

$6.99/lb at Truong Phat (Linda Vista Road) on Sunday. One in front of the tank was scary big- as long as my forearm and the tail was curled. Had to be at least 15 lbs.

I assume these are sourced from China or elsewhere in Asia. Truong Phat and 99 Ranch's lobsters are **never ever** as tasty as lobsters brought in from the cold waters of Maine and the east coast of Canada. It's worth paying more (though not $30 / lb more!!)

$5.98/pound for the 2-5 lb'rs at the Ranch 99 in San Gabriel.

Awesome. Wish I lived up there. Wonder if prices will stay low for awhile.

By the way, I was at the 99 Ranch in Kearny Mesa in San Diego. I should have added to the title "San Diego".

they probably want to get rid of those buggers, their tanks were full of them.
Had some out of towners last week and we must have killed off a dozen for the week at Zen Mei Bistro @ $9.99 each. Zen Mei Bistro is in LA Chinatown. Although a friend went to Sam Woo in Las Vegas @ $38/ pound.
