Steak House question

Looking for suggestions on Steak Houses -- something that is a cut above an Outback or Boulder Creek, but not quite as expensive as a Ruths Chris or Mortons - looking for something in either Queens or Nassau, perhaps a little further out on Long Island.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

Woodhaven House , on Woodhaven Blvd in Rego Park/Middle Village does a surprisingly decent steak, both NY Strip and filet mignon (a weekend special) in the 20 something range. I find that their steaks are much better during the weekend than mid week though....

Try any of the Argentine or Uruguayan steakhouses in Queens. My favorite cuts are the entraña (skirt steak) or vacio (hanger steak). Rare to medium rare works best for these cuts. All priced about or below $20 for a good non-aged steak, made better with chimichurri sauce. They're around Jackson Heights/Elmhurst/Corona. Just off the top of my head, La Fusta, La Porteña, Boca Jr., Parillada Mi Tío, El Gauchito, Esquina Criolla, Chivito d'Oro, and several more to choose from.

On that subject Morton's in Great Neck is donating $27 of every $85 of a prix fixe menu June 1-June 5 to charities. I'd like to take my wife as it's our 10th anniversary and I thought it's a nice gesture on their part. Total bill would be $250-$275, worth it?

I appreciate the info - Ive been to Mortons and think other steak houses are better but it is personal taste that drives decisioning. For what I am looking for it is what I would categorize as upscale and expensive.

A few years ago I had a nice dinner at exactly the kind of steakhouse I think you're looking for (no Luger's war necessary--I think that falls in the "expensive" category)--not a chain, locally owned, not fancy but good steaks? Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it--it's right along Jericho Turnpike about 15 minutes before you hit Huntington Station--does anyone know the place I'm talking about? Wood sided building relatively close to the road?

I believe the place you may be talking about is Majors Steakhouse on the north side of Jericho Tpke in Woodbury. Good food and reasonably priced.
