Shangri-La Regulars Visit Fuloon
We live near Shangri-La and as regulars rarely venture elsewhere for Chinese. Today, however, mom had a hankering for Peking Duck, which Shangri-La does not have. Chef Chang's in Brookline was the first place that came to mind but the rest of their menu is pretty "blah" so we decided to try Fuloon in Malden instead.
While we were impressed overall with the place and would return to explore more interesting menu items, the Peking Duck was very poor. Already off the bone, obviously sitting around for a long time, very similar in presentation to Shangri-La's Tea Smoked Duck only not nearly as good and much more expensive ($24.99). Not even close to our last Chef Chang's experience -- succulent whole duck with crispy skin, cut from the carcass at your table.
On the bright side, the Fuloon pork pancake and spicy sour cabbage were both excellent and unusual. Will have to return to try the wok baked items, etc.
