Mother's day long distance

Hi all,
I'm a newbie and I have a situation. I am in North Carolina. A dear friend of mine lives in Brooklyn. I want to have dinner delivered to her tomorrow for Mother's Day. I have spent all day looking for restaurants in her area that would deliver. Something other than pizza and chinese food. Any suggestions? She lives on Tennis Court in Brooklyn, NY.......Thanks and Happy Mother's Day!!

  1. Gee., nothing like waiting until the last minute! The only place I can think of that might deliver on the busiest dine out day of the year would be a Kosher Deli. You can try Jay and Lloyd's. They are very nice people.. If they can help they will. Have credit card in hand and since Kosher food is not inexpensive, be prepared to spend. They will fax you their menu. Good luck!

    1. I'm a bit confused as to why this would be a difficult request--while I'm not overly familiar with the neighborhood, your friend appears to live in Kensington or Ditmas Park. I am not very familiar with either, but I do know I have seen a number of threads about the delivery options in both. Is this really the busiest dine-out day of the year? Regardless, my guess is that the great majority of restaurants that do delivery on other days of the year are doing delivery for tonight--no need whatsoever to limit yourself to a kosher deli (unless, of course, you want to send kosher deli food). Do a search of these boards for Kensington and Ditmas Park--you will see tons of suggestions.

p.s. be prepared to truthfully reassure whatever restaurant you end up ordering from that your friend is expecting the delivery and will be home.

Yup... Busiest dine in day of the year. As for delivery on Mother's Day, my guess is you don't dine out on that day. Places like a local Chinese take out will. of course. deliver. That's what they do but good luck getting a "regular' restaurant to take a small credit card phone in order for delivery. Most restaurants barely have enough staff to cover the mayhem within the restaurant. Perhaps if the OP had more time to search/make arreagements, but the day before? Nuh uh.

It doesn't matter now, but I do disagree. The general type of restaurants that offer delivery in Kensington and Ditmas Park--with the exception of Farm at Adderley and maybe a few other places--rely heavily on the delivery trade as part of their business model (while I'm not hip to the latest offerings over there, I was adjacent in WT for many years). This is not the same as trying to order in from Scarpetta or Corton or Norma's. For example, I completely forgot about this thread last night (for that matter, I forgot it was Mother's Day) when ordering delivery in Park Slope (which I am informed is the heart of mommy country), and my delicious Italian food arrived in half an hour with nary a demurral from the restaurant, and I can't remember a single Mother's Day-related delivery issue in ordering in for the past ten years.

I'm not so sure someone calling from out of town to "11th hour "order a credit card delivery would be as successful as a regular patron from the neighborhood but apparently you've had positive non pizzaria/Chinese takeout experiences on Mother's Day.. I'm happy to be corrected. and I hope the OP was successful :-)
